Magna Carta exhibition pulls in record number of visitors to museum

DURHAM Cathedral Museum welcomed its highest ever attendance in 2025 thanks to the exhibition of three ancient Magna Cartas for the first time in eight years.

During the exhibition, Magna Carta and the North, held from July 11 to November 2, more than 30,000 visitors have passed through its doors, more than 40% above the predicted visitor figures.

The final week, which coincided with the October half-term, saw more than 2,500 visitors, a record since the museum opened in 2016.

The overall reported visitor numbers have approximately doubled since the end of the summer holidays.
