Leverkusen team-mates in altercation
The Journal
|December 10, 2025
NEWCASTLE United's Champions League opponents Bayer Leverkusen come into the tie on the back of a 2-0 defeat at the weekend.
-
Leverkusen's defeat at the WWK Arena was a blow for manager Kasper Hjulmand and his squad, after they had gone into the game on a high after beating Borussia Dortmund to strengthen their position in the Bundesliga.
However, goals from Dimitrios Giannoulis and Anton Kade gave the home side a halftime lead which they held on to despite Leverkusen pressure in the second period.
Nathan Tella came off the bench in the 61st minute to attempt to get his side back in the game but the ex-Southampton attacker missed a chance to pull a goal back in the 75th minute when he somehow missed a gaping goal.
