Hospitality group takes over lease at gastropub

A POPULAR Northumberland pub and restaurant is destined for a fresh future after being taken over by a well-known hospitality group.
We revealed last month how St Mary's Inn had been placed on the market with a £1.4m price tag, four years after it was bought out of administration.
The gastropub, based at Stannington, near Morpeth, opened more than 10 years ago after a refurbishment of part of an Edwardian hospital.
After a lavish £1.5m transformation it was closed three years later, its owners opting to wait until surrounding housing developments had been completed, to give it a better chance of success.
However, along with all other hospitality businesses, it was forced to close during the Covid-19 pandemic. After restrictions were lifted in 2021 it was placed into administration after a creditor in Australia called in a debt.
