Hopes hub at academy will improve attendance

A NORTHUMBERLAND academy is one of the first in the country to have an attendance and behaviour hub, as the government announced new measures to support schools. Ashington Academy is one of 21 schools across the country, and the only one in the North East, where the hubs have been introduced.

It is hoped that the hubs will lead to improved attendance and calmer classrooms as part of the Labour government's Plan for Change, with 800 schools attended by around 600,000 pupils targeted overall. Struggling schools will have access to support from headteachers who have tackled the problems in their own schools.
