CARL Magnay admitted Gateshead were punished for poor errors as their National League play-off bid took a blow with a defeat at Hartlepool United.

Heed punished for 'poor errors'

The home side edged themselves in front just after the mid-way point of the first-half when Heed keeper Tiernan Brooks failed to hold a free-kick and that allowed Luke Charman to head home the first goal of the game.

The lead was doubled just before half-time as on-loan West Bromwich Albion winger Reyes Cleary continued his impressive form in front of goal by rolling the ball through the legs of Brooks after Gateshead failed to deal with a Nicky Featherstone pass into their area.

Jovan Malcolm got the Heed back into the game just after half-time with a fine free-kick, but Pools restored their two-goal lead with just under 20 minutes remaining as Mani Dieseruvwe fired home after Brooks had parried a Cleary shot.
