Flagship homes and care facilities plan is approved

PLANS for a new multi-million pound extra care facility in Northumberland have been approved.
The flagship scheme will house older people and others with support needs at Delaval Terrace in Blyth.
The proposals will see existing housing demolished and replaced with self-contained accommodation. Up to 64 units are planned with the possibility of increasing that number to 70 if additional properties can be acquired.
Delaval Terrace is currently home to council-owned social housing.
However, this is in a poor state of repair and will be torn down alongside the nearby Scout Hut. Proposals are also being developed for a cafe/restaurant, hairdresser, a therapy room and space for external organisations.
The council says the scheme is "designed to promote independence, provide opportunities for residents to develop social support and reduce isolation".
