DECADES-LONG SEARCH TO HONOUR SERVICEMAN

A DECADES-long search for the previously lost names of World War Two servicemen from the Burradon and Camperdown area of North Tyneside has finally ended.
Now, community organisers are appealing to families to get in touch to make sure the list is complete ahead of plans to fully etch a commemorative plaque.
The names of 15 men who served and gave up their lives in WWI from northwestern North Tyneside have been found and now can be recorded following successful fundraising efforts.
The project saw collaboration between the Burradon and Camperdown Forum, Killingworth Historical Society, and the British Legion.
The list was found following a chance encounter between the forum and a member of the Killingworth Historical Society at a church event.
The names were subsequently checked through military records.
