Council in push to be 'age friendly'

NORTH Tyneside is bidding to become a World Health Organisation 'age friendly' area as the number of older people is set to "grow significantly" by 2030.

According to North Tyneside Council statistics, from 2020 to 2030 the number of people aged 65-74 is set to increase by 16.2% and number of those aged 75 and over is set to expand by 30.8%.
This equates to a jump of 23,815 65-74-year-olds in 2020 to 27,547 in five years' time.
In the same time period, those in the 75+ age bracket will increase from 18,879 to 24,739.
