City councillor denies sexually assaulting woman

A NEWCASTLE councillor has appeared in court to deny sexually assaulting a woman at an address on Tyneside. Thom Campion, a sitting councillor in the city's Castle ward, allegedly put his hands under the female's top to touch her breasts and put his fingers down her throat.
As previously reported on The Journal, the 27-year-old was charged with one count of sexual assault, which is suspected of taking place in March 2023, and appeared in the dock at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, September 3. Campion, of Warkworth Woods, in Great Park, Newcastle, spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address and to plead not guilty to the allegation.
