ALAN Browne admitted his disappointment in not being given a chance to fight for his place at Sunderland in the Premier League this season after helping the club achieve promotion last term.
The Black Cats were extremely active in the summer transfer window following promotion to the Premier League, and Browne was one of several players from last season’s team who were shifted to the fringes as a result.
The message from the club was clear in that they felt a squad overhaul was needed to be competitive in the top league, with Browne and others deemed surplus to requirements.
With Browne having dropped down the pecking order following an influx of new midfielders, the 30-year-old made the switch to Middlesbrough on deadline day on a season-long loan move.
