BACK to the Future was a box office hit in 1985 and is still attracting new fans 40 years later.
-
Publicity for the film said “Meet Marty McFly. He’s broken the time barrier, busted his parents’ first date and, maybe, botched his chances of ever being born”.
It was the biggest film release of the year, but what happened to the cast next?
MICHAEL J FOX
Marty McFly
The Canadian-born actor made his film debut in Teen Wolf a year before Back to the Future came out, but playing impetuous teenage time traveller Marty brought him international fame.
He said in his autobiography, Lucky Man, that he found himself sitting next to Princess Diana at the premiere of Back to the Future in London in 1985.
Michael went on to star in hit movies like The Frighteners and Doc Hollywood but was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s disease a year after Back to the Future Part III was released in 1990. He first noticed a tremor in his little finger before his diagnosis at the age of 29 and the progressive neurological condition has severely affected his mobility and the star has suffered broken bones from numerous falls.
He founded the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research in 2000, and in the years since it has raised more than $2billion dollars (£1.58billion).
