Appeal to keep drones away from air ambulances

DRONE pilots are being urged to fly close to air ambulances responding to emergency incidents.
It comes after one instance where drones being flown close to a Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) helicopter saw a seven-minute delay in airlifting a critically ill patient to hospital.
In a more recent incident, two doctors - a paramedic and a pilot from GNAAS - responded to reports of an assault in Spennymoor last Tuesday evening, October 14.
‘They worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to assess a patient but as they were about to leave the scene they encountered a drone flying dangerously close to the helicopter.
