Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay begins Tamil Nadu-wide tour

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder and Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay embarked on his first Tamil Nadu-wide political tour at a massive public rally in Tiruchi on Saturday.
He launched a broadside against the “fascist” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre and “poison” Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in the State.
Elections to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly are due in March/ April 2026. While the DMK has aligned with the Congress and several regional parties, rival AIADM has aligned with the BJP to fight these polls. Vijay’s TVK is entering the political fray for the first time.
While speaking in Tiruchi and Ariyalur, he accused the two parties of “betraying” and “tormenting” the people. He declared that the TVK’s objective is to free Tamil Nadu of poverty, nepotism, and corruption and usher in a true and conscientious democracy.
The event in Tiruchi turned out to be a huge show of strength and an impromptu rally, which brought parts of city to a standstill, as thousands of party cadre and fans marched with Vijay from the airport to Marakkadai, where he addressed his supporters.
