Students under pressure learn to cope with stress
The Island
|February 07, 2026
Every school year brings its own mix of homework deadlines, exams, social pressures and expectations.
-
For many students, this pressure can build into stress that affects mood, sleep, concentration and even overall health. Educators and mental health experts say this stress is not simply something to endure. With the right habits and support, young people can learn to manage it effectively.
One of the first steps in reducing stress is good planning and time management. When students organise their tasks, break larger assignments into smaller pieces and use planners or digital calendars, they feel more in control of their workload. Techniques such as studying in short focused intervals followed by brief breaks help keep focus sharp and prevent burnout from long, unbroken hours of work. Managing time well prevents that last-minute panic that leaves students feeling overwhelmed.
