Kaushal Silva aims to script revival tale for Hong Kong cricket

Former Sri Lanka Test opener Kaushal Silva has been appointed Head Coach of the Hong Kong national cricket team on a three-year deal, with the Asia Cup looming as his first major assignment.

The 39-year-old, who featured in 39 Tests for Sri Lanka, takes over a side placed in a challenging group alongside his homeland, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan in the eight-nation tournament to be played in September in the United Arab Emirates.
“The Asia Cup is our next big hurdle,” Silva told Telecom Asia Sports. “It’s a fresh start. The squad’s a good mix, mostly players of Asian origin, with a few from England and Australia. They’re in a rebuilding phase. My job is to identify a strong core and instil the mental steel needed to compete at the top level.”
