IPL globalises cricket, turns it into a multi-billion-dollar business

NEW DELHI, April 6: For many IPL (Indian Premier League) franchise owners, the end of the ongoing cricket extravaganza across India tournament doesn't mark the end of business.
Many now own teams in multiple leagues around the world, turning the business of cricket leagues into a multibillion-dollar enterprise, intertwined with entertainment, and thriving in numerous corners of the world.
Numerous Indian franchise owners now own as many as 20 leagues overseas.
For instance, Mumbai Indians owner, Indiawin Sports Private Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, owns franchises in Caribbean Premier League (CPL), South Africa T20 League, UAE's International league T20, Major League Cricket in the US. Last month, it also bought 49% stake in Oval Invincibles, a team franchise in Englandbased The Hundred.
