Gold jewellery haul recovered from LTTE ordered to be valued by NGJA

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali on Monday (05) ordered the National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) to submit a detailed report— along with copies—to the court and the CID regarding the weight and gold content of approximately 10,000 gold jewellery items, retrieved from LTTE camps during the war in the Northern and Eastern provinces and are currently stored securely at the Army Intelligence Headquarters.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption initiated a formal investigation into the origins of this gold, and Deputy Solicitor General Suharshi Herath Jayaweera, appearing on behalf of the prosecution, requested the court to issue necessary orders in support of the investigation. Considering the request, the Magistrate issued orders accordingly.
