AI and cinema

The Island

The movie industry has always been shaped by technology, from the arrival of sound and colour to the rise of computer-generated imagery.

Now a new wave of change is gathering momentum, powered by artificial intelligence. Filmmakers, studios and audiences are on the brink of a transformation that promises to alter every stage of the cinematic journey, from scriptwriting to distribution.

One of the earliest signs of this shift is in storytelling itself.

Screenwriters are beginning to use AI tools to brainstorm plots, refine dialogue and explore character arcs. While machines cannot replicate the depth of human imagination, they can serve as collaborators that speed up the creative process. A writer stuck on a scene might rely on AI to generate alternatives or test how different character choices would affect the story’s direction. This does not replace creativity but acts as a companion that widens the scope of possibility.
