Republicans take swing states North Carolina and Georgia
Donald Trump has declared a “magnificent victory” in the US election, thanking voters for the “extraordinary honour of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president” after a historic comeback.
He addressed cheering supporters at his campaign headquarters in Florida after Republicans won key battlegrounds including North Carolina and Georgia, leaving Kamala Harris with an all but impossible task of reaching the 270 electoral college votes needed to enter the White House.
“We also have won the popular vote,” he said, adding that there was “no other path to victory” for Harris.
