Future shape of town revamp mapped out

KIRKLEES Council has given a major update on the progress of Holmfirth town centre's revamp, setting out everything to be aware of over the next six months.

Redevelopment work has already started in Holmfirth

The £10.3m Holmfirth Town Centre Access Plan (HTCAP) is designed to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions, improve journey times, encourage active travel and make the town more accessible. The scheme makes up part of the town’s wider ‘Blueprint’ project, with work beginning last March.

So far, footpaths, kerbing, drainage and traffic signal upgrades have been completed at Huddersfield Road, Victoria Street, Towngate and Dunford Road which accounts for around 80 per cent of improvement works. Huddersfield Road car park has made strides, as 60 per cent of the reinforced concrete piles for the new structure have been installed.
