Brothers burgled homes of takeaway workers
The Huddersfield Daily Examiner
|November 17, 2025
TWO “despicable” brothers who targeted homes in Huddersfield have been jailed.
Brian Mooney
Brian Mooney and Michael Mooney burgled 33 homes across Lancashire - some while the owners were at work in local takeaways.
Among the addresses targeted by the pair were properties in Haslingden and Edenfield in Lancashire, as well as a branch of Booths supermarket.
They admitted their involvement in two burglary sprees, the first in 2021 and early 2022, the second between late 2022 and February 2024.
In the first spate of burglaries, homes of people working in food takeaway businesses were targeted.
A dozen properties were affected, all when the householders were out working at food takeaways, indicating a high degree of planning.
Homes in Huddersfield, Darwen, Burnley, Earby, Nelson, Colne, Clayton-le-Moors and Preston, were burgled.
Brian Mooney was involved in them all, with Michael Mooney admitting to joining in the plot to burgle houses in March 2022 and accepting involvement in two of the burglaries.
