DRIVERS CAN NOW SEE HOW WELL COUNCILS ARE TACKLING POTHOLES
LEICESTERSHIRE is to benefit from a cash boost now it has been rated “red” in a government traffic light rating system showing how well councils are tackling potholes.
Drivers across England can see how well their local authority is combating the problem with the new mapping tool.
It shows 154 local highway authorities rated as red, amber or green based on road conditions and how effectively they are spending the government's road maintenance funding.
The vast majority of authorities are rated amber. Among those classified as red are Leicestershire; Cumberland, Cumbria; Bolton, Greater Manchester; Suffolk; and Kensington and Chelsea, west London. The Department for Transport (DfT) said red authorities will receive “dedicated support to bring them into line with best practices” through a £300,000 programme.
