Whetton and Johnson emerge as derby victors

Andrew Leigh and Sue Newberry Nicky Slight and James Driscoll

It was a local 'derby' between the Yelverton pair of Julia Whetton and sub Sandy Johnson and the Tavistock pairing of Hilary Conn and sub Helen Lucas. It was played at Yelverton and the reduced journey time obviously helped with energy levels.

The hard fought match was neck and neck for the first two sets with nothing between the pairs as they varied tactics with many lobs as well as crisp ground strokes and decisive volleys from all four.

Having secured the second set and therefore the match, Julia and Sandy were determined to score maximum points conceding just one game in the final set, to win overall 6-5, 6-5, 6-1.

It was another closely fought battle when Sarah Blain and Pam Ellis took on Stephanie D'Haussy and Caroline Floccia. The first set was evenly matched at 3-3 but Sarah and Pam pulled away to take the set 6-3.

The second set was hard fought with Stephanie and Caroline matching Sarah and Pam game for game but Sarah and Pam clinched the set 6-5.

The final score saw Sarah and Pam win 6-3, 6-5, 6-5.

Introducing digital ID makes perfect sense

I AM very much in favour of digital ID. It would solve multiple issues if it was properly administered, although I’m not sure the Government is competent to do this!
