TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Mayor of Saltash who became the driving force behind the plan to erect the 20-meter-high Cornish Cross that marks the boundary with Devon
-
Joe Ellison, who was Mayor of Saltash from 2006-7 and lived in Saltash for more than 20 years, has been praised for making a unique difference to the town and to the lives of the people of Saltash and beyond. Mr Ellison died in Pembrokeshire, where he had moved with his wife Clare to be closer to their family.
Mr Ellison is credited as the key man behind the Cornish Cross which is situated at the North side of the Tamar Bridge.
He used his skills and expertise when he became team leader and facilitator of the project, taking over from the Saltash Cornwall 1998/99/2000 Committee when it was unable to complete the installation of the project due to planning and financial constraints.
