Theatre Royal reaches out to migrant artists
The Herald
|August 24, 2024
THEATRE Royal Plymouth is giving migrant artists based in the South West the chance to develop their work.
-
As part of its artist development programme, TRP has partnered with the charity Projekt Europa to offer the migrants an opportunity to develop cocreated work.
Entitled Projekt Elevate, it will award three migrant theatre makers a paid development opportunity to produce an original idea for a co-created project in collaboration with their local communities.
The programme will culminate with the artists presenting ideas to TRP's artistic leadership team, who will consider the proposed project for further development.
TRP's artistic director Malaika Kegode said: "As a cultural organisation, TRP has an important part to play in promoting inclusivity in the arts, ensuring people of all backgrounds are empowered to express their creativity and deepen their artistic practice.
"Projekt Elevate gives us the opportunity to reach and celebrate migrant theatre-makers in the South West at a time that feels especially vital to do so.
