CULTURAL CENTRE AMONG 75 VENUES TO RECEIVE GOVERNMENT SUPPORT
PLYMOUTH museum and cultural centre The Box is among the beneficiaries of a £20 million fund which is being distributed across museums in England to ensure they remain open, the Government has announced.
The North Hill venue has been allocated £184,215 from the Museum Renewal Fund, which will support a total of 75 local and regional museums.
Money from the fund aims to improve and protect public access to collections, community and educational programmes, opening hours and job opportunities for millions of visitors and local communities.
The grants, ranging from £11,000 to more than £1 million, also aim to strengthen the museums' ability to attract tourists and employers to regions across the country, ensuring they remain fit for the future.
It comes after a new report suggested that The Box has boosted Plymouth's economy by £244m since it opened five years ago.
