The art of assembling domestic appliances
The Herald
|May 19, 2025
IMAGINE my delight when we recently received the generous gift from friends of a ‘12 Multi Fuel Portable Outdoor Pizza Oven‘.. just a few weeks after I had written a column about household appliances that I seldom use due to the fact I can’t really operate them! If, in fact, I can ever assemble them.

Is it destined to spends its days alongside that all-singing, all-dancing food processor, air fryer, juicer and yoghurt maker?
Lured by the thoughts of warm summer evenings on the terrace beneath the wisteria draped pergola, a glass of chilled Sauvignon Blanc in one hand, a slice of the crispiest based quattro stagioni dripping with melted mozzarella in the other, my husband and I set about assembling it. I must admit I was slightly alarmed when I read the words “adult supervision required”.
Then I saw the temperature, “when being used,’ “ranges from 120C to 550C”! The Fire Brigade on speed dial seemed a better option than my 89-year-old neighbour.
Anyway, “you'll be fine)” my husband said, handing over to me. “You did that pedestal fan last week”
Yes, I must admit I managed that in under two hours, my previous best, as I am not new to the world of pedestal fans.
