THIS Thursday, May 8, marks 80 years since Victory in Europe (VE Day), when the Second World War came to an end in Europe. 80 years on, a series of national and local events are showing our collective gratitude to the men, women and children who fought for our freedom and paid the ultimate sacrifice.
This year is particularly poignant, as it will be one of the last opportunities to honour those Second World War veterans who are still alive.
During uncertain times, there is still a great deal to learn from their stories and ensure they are told to future generations so they understand why people fought so hard, as well as the horrors that conflicts of this scale can bring.
