Residents to fight on over planning battle

RESIDENTS are vowing to fight on in a long-running battle to stop houses being built on one of the last green spaces on a huge Plymouth housing estate. In May, plans to build on Wilmot Gardens, in Crownhill, were quashed by a court and sent back to square one.

Protesters battling to prevent the five-house development have now been told that, after seeking legal advice, Plymouth City Council is to put the plans back in front of a planning committee.

But protesters, including the Crownhill Local Area Residents Association (Clara), have now vowed to fight on and called on the developer, Classic Builders, to give up and drop their proposals.

Meanwhile, they have made an official complaint saying that an application for a tree preservation order (TPO) on the site, has still not been determined after a year.

They had called for the protection of all trees on the site, including an oak, fearing they were in danger if the house-building was allowed. The council said it is reviewing the application and looking at legal implications connected to the planning situation.
