ALLEGATIONS INCLUDED RACIST BEHAVIOUR

Plymouth nurse is struck off

A PLYMOUTH nurse has been struck off, after being found to have racially abused and bullied colleagues and being "cruel" to patients.

Marie Boot was also considered to have put patients at risk of physical harm and caused them emotional damage while working on night shifts at Waters Park House Brain Injury Centre, in Stoke, Plymouth.

Mrs Boot faced 31 charges, including that she shouted at colleagues, called a co-worker "a piece of s***” and a "sex pest", and told residents at the centre to "shut up", referring to one as a "bitch".

The Fitness to Practise Committee of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) heard Mrs Boot fell asleep on duty and left a resident in a wheelchair all night.

At the misconduct hearing, the panel found that the facts on all the charges were proven and that Mrs Boot's fitness to practise was considered to be impaired.

She was struck off the nurses' register, with an interim suspension order placed on her for 18 months, so she is unable to work during any appeal process.
