There are plans to convert a former police station on Catherine Street into 16-bedroom boutique hotel
A PLANNING application has been submitted to turn a historic building in the heart of the city into a 16-bed hotel adjacent to a popular bar, cafe and restaurant.
Plymouth City Council's planning department is now examining the detailed application made, according to publicly available documents, by a representative of The Treasury Group, who run the Treasury at the top of Catherine Street.
The application, received on July 7, cites a request for the “conversion of building from former council treasury office/storage premises to form a 16-bed hotel including self-catering rooms, to be operated alongside and in conjunction with the adjoining The Treasury Cafe, Bar & Restaurant”.
The application includes a historic impact assessment which notes how the property, at 10 Catherine Street, was constructed as a police station in the late-19th century - operating as the Plymouth police headquarters between 1973 and 1935, and is contemporary with the adjacent Guildhall and City Treasury.
