Pilgrims finish on top of League Cup group

PLYMOUTH Argyle ran out comfortable 6-0 winners against Bristol Rovers as they finished top of Group A in the FA Women's National League Cup after a dominant display that saw goals from Katie Wilson, Tianna Teisar, Giota Papaioannou and a brace from Liv Francis.

Ella Stephens returned to the starting 11 for the first time this season, anchoring a heavily rotated squad that combined freshness with fluid attacking play. Head coach Marie Hourihan said: "The main objective was achieved and we've managed to rotate and give players an opportunity and minutes so overall a very good day."

From the outset, the Greens controlled proceedings, creating chances through wide play and set pieces, while the backline and goalkeeper remained untroubled. The performance highlighted both individual quality and collective cohesion, providing a statement of intent as the team look to build momentum in the league and cup competitions alike.

Argyle began brightly, with a move down the left ending in Katie Dickson volleying over from a back post cross. Bristol Rovers responded with high pressure, forcing a turnover on the edge of the area, though Nia Rees' effort failed to trouble goalkeeper Hermione Cull.

The Greens created another opening when Katie Wilson delivered a cross into the box, but Phoebie Poole could not make a clean connection, and the ball ran out for a goal kick.
