LUKE DANN'S ARREST WAS CAPTURED ON CAMERA

A NEW TV series which shows police bodyworn camera footage of key arrests is set to be broadcast tonight with one highlighting the arrest of a Plymouth businessman jailed for killing a pedestrian.

Inside the Arrest makes use of CCTV and body camera footage captured by police officers to present the actual moments officers speak those powerful words, “I'm arresting you on suspicion of...”

In the case of Plymouth’s Luke Dann, those words were spoken by an officer and followed by the word “murder” - although he was later cleared by a jury of the murder of David Kelly, but found guilty of his manslaughter.

Episode 8 of the series, featuring the arrest of Dann, will be broadcast tonight, Friday, at 10pm on Really and then aired on Discovery+ streaming service for subscribers.

Programme makers told The Herald: “The arrest is the ultimate high-stakes moment for the police. One simple mistake and officers can endanger themselves and jeopardise an entire investigation.

“In Britain, police take 2,000 suspects into custody every day and, with each arrest captured on body worn video, the pressure to do things correctly has never been greater.
