Guess The Year: When a plan for theatre space was considered as part of the city's new central library

THE Herald reported: "Plymouth Public Libraries Committee has asked the city architect, Mr E G Catchpole, to consider the possibility of incorporating within or adjacent to the proposed new Central Library a scheme for a permanent small theatre."

Mr W Best Harris said the committee was proposing a theatre to seat between 400 and 500 people. The Herald also reported that "300 more dwellings in houses and several large blocks of flats for Plymouth may result directly from the changes made in the Devonport Dockyard scheme".

Meanwhile, there was news that another area had been saved from builders. "Two flying approaches to Harrowbeer Aerodrome will be safeguarded from building development which might prevent the airfield from being used again for flying."
