Council sells land in Plympton for £7.3m

DEAL WILL FUND BUILDING OF CITY CENTRE HOMES
Plans have been published for 500 new homes on land off Stoggy Lane, in Plympton
A HUGE parcel of land earmarked for 500 homes has been sold by Plymouth City Council for £7.3 million in what it called a "win-win" for the city.
The Government housing quango Homes England has bought the farm land, of West Park Hill, in Plympton, with the council saying it will plough the receipts into building more housing in the city centre.
The Plympton plot, near Stoggy Lane, is designated for housing in the Joint Local Plan, and in 2024 a community consultation took place on an outline proposal for up to 500 open market and affordable homes.
There were concerns at the time over the effect such a massive housing development would have on the area's infrastructure, with the Sherford new town still unfinished and more housing planned at nearby Coypool.
