FORMER ARGYLE BOSS TONY PULIS HAS WORDS OF ADVICE FOR THEIR UNDER-PRESSURE HEAD COACH

- By CHRIS ERRINGTON

TONY Pulis has urged Tom Cleverley to 'keep believing in himself' as the 36-year-old endures a very difficult start to his stint as Plymouth Argyle head coach.

The vastly experienced Pulis, who managed a large number of clubs during his career, including Argyle during the 2005/06 Championship campaign, offered the advice to Cleverley to be 'very basic and very organised' as he attempts to turn around the results of the struggling Pilgrims.

The 67-year-old also sees the appointment of former promotion-winning Argyle manager Derek Adams as the club’s new director of football as a positive for Cleverley as he wrestles with the challenges he has been dealing with this term.

Another former Argyle manager, and player, David Kemp was the longtime assistant to Pulis so they are a club he has always kept an eye on.

Pulis told Herald Sport, in an interview courtesy of Netbet betting odds for sports events: “I follow them, don’t worry about that! I have got someone in America, Kempy is always ringing me about the club. He had a real association with Argyle.

“I had a great seven months down there, a really fantastic time, met a lot of nice people. It’s a bit out of the way but the people are fabulous. I have some great memories of how we played on the pitch. We had some fantastic results and the lads were brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

“I have been down there since, and seen what they have done with the stadium. It’s a fantastic football club and it’s disappointing getting into the Championship and then dropping out again so quickly.”

Cleverley was appointed by Argyle in the summer after a season-and-a-bit of being in charge of Watford in the Championship, first in a caretaker capacity and then on a permanent basis.

Argyle are bottom of League One after picking up 13 points from 15 games and have lost their last six games in all competitions, leading to increasing criticism of him from the Green Army.
