IN the week of the first anniversary of his death - and on a day when we remember the fallen heroes of war - the family of a British volunteer who was killed while fighting for Ukraine have honoured their “brave” son.

- By JOHN BETT and JAMES KNUCKEY

Callum Tindal-Draper, a 22-year-old from Gunnislake, Cornwall, tragically lost his life on the frontline in eastern Ukraine on November 5 last year after volunteering for an infantry mission.

Steven Draper, Callum’s 54-year-old father, expressed that his son’s death has left a “huge void” in the family. Speaking to the Express, he said: “You often look around for role models in life, but for me, Callum is my role model. I think about him every day, how he would have done things, I try and take that bravery, that courage into things that I need to do.”

He further added: “It is an absolute honour to be Callum’s dad and to have had the wonderful 22 years that we did have sharing a physical life.
