Study finds almost half of the UK's domestic gardens are paved over

Nearly half of garden space in the UK is paved over, a Royal Horticultural Society study has found.
The charity is asking homeowners to keep gardens green, arguing they are an untapped - and until now mostly unmeasured - natural resource. In the largest ever audit of UK gardens, RHS researchers identified 25.8m plots, amounting to 959,800 hectares (2.37m acres) or 4.6% of the UK's total land area.
