Jony Ive, designer of Apple iPod, to join OpenAI in $6.5bn deal

OpenAI has recruited Jony Ive, the British designer behind Apple's iPhone, to lead a hardware project for the firm that makes ChatGPT in a deal valued at almost $6.5bn (£4.8bn).
In the AI firm's biggest known acquisition yet, OpenAI is buying io, a product and engineering company co-founded by Ive.
Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a blog post last night that their new partnership has been two years in the making.
"A collaboration built upon friendship, curiosity and shared values quickly grew in ambition," they wrote in the blog post, which offered scant details on upcoming devices. "Tentative ideas and explorations evolved into tangible designs."
