Heat alarm Spectators pass out as sun blasts tournament

Wimbledon has told fans to take time out of the sun after a number required medical help on Centre Court amid sweltering conditions.

- PA Media

Temperatures reached 31C (88F) for the men's singles semi-finals yesterday and are expected to top 30C today for the women's singles final.

Tournament organisers have increased the number of messages reminding spectators to seek shade and drink plenty of water.

In its hot weather guidance, Wimbledon reminds its guests "to apply sunscreen regularly" and "wear light, breathable clothing, hats, caps and sunglasses".

Fans were handed out at Southfields tube station yesterday to spectators walking to the grounds.

Many Wimbledon staff did not wear jackets and organisers said shift patterns had been "adjusted to limit heat exposure".
