Ex-Royal Marine appears in court accused of driving into crowd at Liverpool parade

A former Royal Marine was remanded in custody yesterday accused of driving into and injuring people at Liverpool football club's Premier League victory parade.
Paul Doyle, 53, looked shaken and tired as he appeared at Liverpool magistrates court charged with offences including wounding and causing grievous bodily harm.
Doyle, a married father of three, shook his head as the prosecutor Philip Astbury told the court he allegedly "drove deliberately" at a crowd of people leaving the parade.
At least 79 people were injured when a Ford Galaxy Titanium was driven into a crowd at the end of celebrations that were attended by hundreds of thousands of people in Liverpool city centre on bank holiday Monday.
The injured were aged from nine to 78, police said, and about 50 people needed hospital treatment.
Doyle, from the West Derby area of Liverpool, is accused of two counts of wounding with intent, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of dangerous driving.
