Milan goalkeeper could move to Stamford Bridge as winger returns to Old Trafford
Chelsea have held positive talks over a deal for the Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who could be available for about €30m (£25m) because he has only one year on his contract.
The Premier League club, who have paid a £5m penalty clause after opting against meeting a £25m obligation to sign the Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, have made checks on Maignan after being presented with an opportunity to make a significant upgrade on their options in goal.
Signing a player of Maignan's experience would represent a diversion from Chelsea's policy of targeting young players. But there is a sense they would be foolish not to look into buying a player of his class. Maignan, who turns 30 next month, would be the oldest player in Chelsea's squad.
