BrewDog sells tree-planting estate after losses of £37m

BrewDog has sold the Highlands rewilding estate it bought with great fanfare five years ago after posting £37m of losses last year on its beer business.
The company bought Kinrara near Aviemore for £8.8m in 2020 and promised to plant millions of trees on 50 sq km of land, initially telling customers the project would be partly funded by sales of its Lost Lager beer.
It retracted many of its claims, admitting the estate was smaller, at 37 sq km, and the tree-planting area smaller still. It said the estate would never soak up the 550,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year it had originally claimed but instead a maximum of 1 million tonnes in 100 years.
