ROBIN WRIGHT AND OLIVIA COOKE DISCUSS DUAL PERSPECTIVES AND JEALOUSY WITH LYNN RUSK IN THEIR UPCOMING THRILLER SERIES THE GIRLFRIEND
-
"These two characters are hyper-aware female alphas, and when you get two alphas in the room, it's going to explode somewhere, somehow, someway," explains Robin of the dynamic between Laura and Cherry.
"That's what's so great about the architecture of this show: you're asking, is her perspective the truth, or is Cherry's?
"You're going back and forth the whole time questioning - did it play out the way Cherry saw it, or the way Laura saw it? And that’s what was so much fun to play, because you get to live in both perspectives."
Beyond the psychological tension, the series is also a comment on the British class system and the power dynamics of wealth and status.
Asked whether she thinks these dynamics are unique to Britain, Robin says: “I don’t think it differs from any other affluent circle. That kind of money is a particular breed of person, and if you've never known anything different you're sort of in your own narcissistic bubble.
