Vision for 600 homes 'utterly barmy' - MP
The Gazette
|June 06, 2025
A DEVELOPER is asking the public what it thinks of plans for 600 new homes in Yarm, but the local MP has already slammed the idea as "utterly barmy".
Taylor Wimpey says it is pre-paring an outline plan for up to 600 new homes on land south of Green Lane, Yarm.
The development proposes twoto five-bedroom homes, including up to 20% affordable housing, homes for sale or rent at discounted rates for people whose needs are not met by the private market.
No planning application has been put into Stockton Council yet.
Taylor Wimpey is starting a two-week consultation with the public, which began with a public exhibition yesterday where people were able speak to the project team.
Taylor Wimpey says feedback from the consultation will shape the planning application, which it intends to submit to the council in the summer.
However, Stockton West Conservative MP Matt Vickers has already delivered his verdict and he says the council should not even validate the proposal.
He said: “The idea of building yet more housing in Yarm is utterly barmy.
