To stay or go? Boro players with futures up in the air...
The Gazette
|May 13, 2025
MIDDLESBROUGH will be looking at another squad overhaul this summer as they look to improve their fortunes after a disappointing end to this season.
While the January sale of Emmanuel Latte Lath undoubtedly hampered their chances of a push for a play-off spot in the second half of the season, the positive is that they should enter the summer transfer window in a healthier financial position as a result of that. They will be needing to strengthen a number of key areas though, with five in particular already identified.
With that in mind, Boro may need to sell other assets this summer in order to stay the right side of the PSR line, while there will naturally, as per any transfer window, be players they wish to move on and find upgrades for if possible. Not including Anfernee Dijksteel and Jonny Howson who face uncertain summers as their contracts come to an end, we take a look at the other senior Boro players who could leave.
Tom Glover
The goalkeeper spent much of the season as third choice and, as he enters the final 12 months of his contract, it will be questionable whether or not he wishes to spend another season down the pecking order. Even when injuries to Sol Brynn and Seny Dieng offered him his chance, Boro quickly signed Mark Travers and he was back to the bench.
Travers is unlikely to sign permanently but Brynn will be back for the start of pre-season.
Whether Boro would allow Glover to go, even if he preferred to, would be uncertain though, with Dieng's injury long-term.
He's not expected to be back before the start of next season.
Rav van den Berg
After turning down top clubs in Europe to join Boro, Van den Berg enjoyed an excellent debut season at the Riverside, winning the Player of the Year award.
