Shops closed for illicit tobacco sales

TWO Hartlepool shops caught selling illegal tobacco have been shut down for three months.

A court heard thousands of cigarettes were seized from both Afreen Super Store at 12 Murray Street and The Quick Shop at 129 Raby Road, along with a “significant amount" of hand-rolling tobacco from one of the shops. The temporary closures follow an investigation by trading standards.
Both shops were among a number of premises targeted by a joint enforcement operation by Hartlepool Council, Cleveland Police and HM Revenue and Customs on June 26.
