Regeneration work should begin next year

DELAYED START DATE NAMED BY MAYOR FOR WORK TO GET UNDERWAY
THE Tees Valley mayor has named a delayed start date for when he hopes major regeneration work will get underway in Gresham.
A much-trailed £200m project, named Crown Square, will see a new hotel as well student accommodation built on the left-behind site, with planning permission granted by the Middlesbrough Development Corporation (MDC) back in April.
Previously, Tees Valley Conservative Mayor Ben Houchen had hoped to see building work commence in September this year, but at a recent Mayoral Question Time appearance, he confirmed that the ambition would now be to see the start of building work on a hotel and other accommodation in January 2026.
He stressed that it was a financing issue holding the project up, rather than stakeholders getting cold feet.
