Quality candidates line up for Boro’s top job

WITH Rob Edwards set to complete a move to Wolves this week, Middlesbrough are beginning their search for a new head coach.

CARLOS CORBERAN

Less than a year after leaving West Bromwich Albion to join Valencia on Christmas Day, Carlos Corberan is under pressure at the Spanish club, who are currently in La Liga’s relegation zone. A return to England and the Championship, therefore, could appeal should a vacancy become available in the event Edwards exits Boro.

Corberan lost a playoff final to Nottingham Forest in his second season at Huddersfield Town, overcoming Nathan Jones’ Luton Town in the semifinal. Two years later, the Spanish coach's West Brom team lost in the playoffs to eventual winners Southampton during his first full season in charge.

GARY O’NEIL

After spending four seasons at Middlesbrough as a player, a return in a head-coach capacity could appeal to Gary O’Neil. The midfielder made over 100 appearances for Boro between 2007 and 2011.
