Plan to build 179 new homes on two fields

A developer has submitted plans to build up to 179 homes and a community centre in Billingham, which it says will support jobs for more than 600 people. TCC Land has applied for outline planning permission to build the homes on two fields on the western edge of Billingham.

It proposes the homes on a 10.76-hectare site near Sandy Lane West, adding the development could “support the employment of 622 people”, and “provide seven apprentices, graduates or trainees”.

It says the homes could generate just over £8m towards new affordable housing and over £1.1m towards infrastructure, including more than £500,000 towards new and improved schools, and increase open space, community sport and leisure spending by £161,000.

The plans include a community centre facing on to Sandy Lane West, as well as a “landscape buffer”, two drainage basins and a “number of areas of open space” and links to walking routes along Wolviston Mill Lane. Council advice said the site “forms part of the open countryside”, according to a planning statement.
